The Evolution of the Quiver & Leather Ball Marker

“From pizza napkin sketches to handcrafted statement pieces for any golfer…it’s been a ride.”

The evolution of the Quiver and our leather ball marker began in the early stages of the Bird Fight brand. Our brainstorming sessions always included a few slices of pizza and occasionally some progress as well. Quick drawings and conversations eventually turned into more polished ideas and concepts for a leather tee holder and ball marker. These concepts evolved into computer renderings and further research into production possibilities.

Once our initial ideas had taken shape we set out to find someone who could bring them to life…we did not have to look far. Our search brought us to Newbury Street in Boston and the start of our exciting collaboration with deWolfe Leather Goods. Immediately upon meeting Gina and seeing the incredible pieces throughout her studio it was obvious we had found someone who’s artistic talent matched their incredible craftsmanship. Our first meeting began with talking through our initial drawings and functionality needs and quickly shifted to a plan to develop our first prototypes.

The following week we returned to the city for our first glimpse at what would eventually become Bird Fight's first two signature products. We were blown away. Gina had taken our pizza napkin sketches and not only brought them to life but to a level we didn’t know was possible. She blended her style with ours to handcraft both items with functionality and a utilitarian type edge.

We immediately began the process of sourcing several different leather options. We were quickly overwhelmed but when Gina asked us to describe our "perfect leather" we immediately took inspiration in another timeless tool from our other favorite sport. Both of us grew up playing baseball. Both of us were Little League Champions (nbd). And both of us are still in love with the nostalgia of the game and have vivid memories of the look, the feel, the smell and the attachment we had to our favorite baseball gloves. Once again, Gina hit it out of the park (pun absolutely intended). She found a high-end, sustainably-sourced Nubuck style leather in a rich brown that had the same luxurious look and feel as the gloves we were so attached to as kids. Soft yet durable and ready for battle the decision was made...this was to become the signature leather of Bird Fight.

There were just a few decisions left before officially moving into production. Continuing to pay homage to the timeless details of a vintage baseball glove, we chose to have both the tee holder and ball marker stitched in a very specific rich red. The Quiver was to be adorned with antiqued brass hardware and both our crest and script logo would be embossed by hand on each piece. Our hope is that these handcrafted tools will become long-lasting possessions providing similar pride and nostalgia for the game of golf.
